The women's water polo team, BCWWP, was founded in 2001 as a part of the club sports program at Boston College. We compete in the North Atlantic Division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) and travel throughout New England and New York. In the '07-'08 season, we won the North Atlantic Championship and received a bid to Nationals in Portland, OR. The Boston College Women's Water Polo Club (BCWWP) competes in the New England Division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association. During the spring season the team practices for 2 hours, 4 days a week. Competition during the spring season includes 2 divisional tournaments, 1 division championship (1st place receives a bid to Nationals), 1 invitational tournament, and multiple scrimmages with local teams. During the off-season in the fall the team usually participates in an invitational tournament and local scrimmages. The team had its most successful season in spring '08 winning the division title and contending in the National Collegiate Club Championship for the first time. Continuing the success, the team defended its North Atlantic division title and received another bid to the National Collegiate Club Championship, this time in Davis, California. The next year, 2009, the team moved into the New England Division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association looking for some more competition. Once again, the BC women's water polo team took home the division title and headed to the National Championship tournament in Tucson, Arizona.

BCWWP is a competitive, student-run program (we are not a varsity sport). Our team welcomes players of all levels and backgrounds. No experience is necessary, though strong swimming ability is recommended.

BCWWP clinched 1st place in the North Atlantic Division and went to Portland, OR to contend in the National Collegiate Club Championship for the first time.

BCWWP wins the North Atlantic Divisional Championship held at BU April 11-13, 2008. The team received a bid with the division title and went to Portland, OR for the National Collegiate Club Championship May 2-4, 2008.

The focus of the women’s water polo club is to offer a competitive sport and team atmosphere for any Boston College female athlete who wishes to pursue the sport of water polo at the collegiate level. We make every effort to represent Boston College by consistently being a competitive member atop the North Atlantic division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) with potential each year to qualify for, and participate in the CWPA National Tournament.

The team strives to assemble the best squad and play at the highest level possible given the constraints of being a club sport. We hope to preserve the integrity and caliber of our team by achieving a winning record, attaining a bid to Nationals, and being a formidable force at the national level. At the same time, the team will balance winning with the desire to offer a sport where any student can participate by improving their skills and being a part of a close team. Through performance and sportsmanship we are eager to be positive ambassadors for Boston College at all tournaments and team events.

Many students transitioning from high school to college lose the ability to participate in a sport at the varsity level, especially at a Division I university. However, club sports allow for continued athletic endeavors. As a dedicated club sport, the water polo team provides the challenge and team dynamic for which athletes yearn, while welcoming participants with a range of abilities. In addition, students can compete at various levels of play, stay in shape, be a part of a fun and energetic team, and represent Boston College.

The Boston College Women's Water Polo (BCWWP) club began in 2001 and ever since it has taken great strides towards establishing itself within the CWPA and on the BC campus. The team has had notable success with increasing membership and reaching higher levels of competition. With the return of 9 players and an extremely talented freshmen class we hope to add to our accomplishments and improve upon the '06-'07 season, our best yet.

Five years ago BCWWP was not a member of the CWPA, there was no coach, and all practices were optional for the approximately ten active members on the team. The following season the team was able to rejoin the CWPA in the North Atlantic division and hire a coach, but because of a lack of experience only one game was won all season. Since then, each season has added to the club's progression including improved level of play, increased active membership, and raised standing to the top three teams in the division. In the '07-'08 season, we won the North Atlantic Championship and received a bid to Nationals in Portland, OR where we finished 11th.
